Israel strikes Iran escalating tensions in the Middle East

Israel has launched strikes against Iran, escalating tensions in the Middle East days before US nuclear negotiations were meant to take place.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed they were attacking Iranian nuclear sites and military facilities.

The strikes took place days before US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff was supposed to be in Oman to continue negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did a press conference on the strikes, saying Iran's nuclear program is a "threat to Israel's survival".

He said, “Israel launched Operation Rising Lion to roll back the Iranian threat to Israel's very survival”.
“This operation will continue for many days to remove this (nuclear) threat”.
