Price of Sri Lankan tea increased 15th August 2009

Sri Lanka has reached the top place amongst the countries that produce quality tea.
A high demand from foreign countries prevails for the Sri Lankan tea. The Director of the Sri Lanka Tea Research Institute Dr. I.S.B. Abeysinghe told ITN that there has been an increase in the price specially of the low country tea. The Director said that this is due to the high quality of the Sri Lankan tea. Sri Lanka is the only country that conforms 100% to the ISO 3720 standard amongst the other tea producing countries. Due to the low usage of chemicals, the Sri Lankan tea contains the least residue level of chemicals. Sri Lanka also has several varieties of tea due to the varying climatic conditions in the areas where the plantations are located.
