Madison Askins was seen walking in the hospital Saturday, days after she collapsed to the ground when she was shot during the deadly Florida State University campus rampage. The FSU grad student made a full lap around the hospital's ICU ward with the help of a physical therapist and a walker, her mother Holly Askins told ABC News' Faith Abubey. Madison had tried walking the day prior, but couldn't make it without getting sick, her mom added, "Baby steps...progress...but baby steps." The 23-year-old is facing a second surgery in a few months, according to her mother. Doctors will try to remove the bullet that is still logged in her vertebrae — only if they can manage the risk of potentially leaving her paralyzed. Askins was one of the six people injured after a gunman opened fire on the Tallahassee campus on Thursday. Two people were killed during the deadly rampage. #abcnews #news #fsu #florida #floridastateuniveristy

Health and Human Services Secretary Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said "autism destroys families" while calling the neurological and developmental disorder "preventable" during remarks on Wednesday. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a spectrum, which means symptoms vary by person, according to the CDC. Some individuals may need little support in their daily lives, while some may need more assistance. There are currently no known preventable measures available for the wide ranging disorder. RFK Jr. had previously questioned why autism rates have been rising over the last several years, remarking today about a new CDC report that found estimated rates of diagnosis are continuing to increase in the U.S. #rfkjr #autism #news #abcnews

"Put up in court or shut up." After returning from a trip to El Salvador to meet with the wrongly deported Maryland dad, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Sen. Chris Van Hollen urged the Trump administration to return him to the U.S. Van Hollen then called out the administration for a lack of evidence over repeated claims that Abrego Garcia has ties to MS-13. The Justice Department had previously said in court that Abrego Garcia had been wrongfully deported due to an "administrative error." #elsalvador #kilmarabregogarcia #news #abcnews

JD Vance was likely the last foreign dignitary to meet with Pope Francis, as the pair met at the Vatican on Easter Sunday hours before the pontiff’s death, ABC News' Rachel Scott reports. “My heart goes out to the millions of Christians all over the world who loved him. I was happy to see him yesterday, though he was obviously very ill,” Vance wrote early Monday on social media.
