US president-elect Donald Trump has taken to social media to announce tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China.

Trump says on his first day in the White House he will impose an extra 10 per cent tariff on all Chinese goods imported to the US.

In Beijing, the government has been working for months to pull the economy out of the doldrums.
