Elderly Russian dictator Putin, 72, has been careful to hide the truth about his health and origins, but now his secrets have been revealed. Hackers have gained access to data that will help to understand the Kremlin leader's real weaknesses. The German publication Bild reports this.
Putin is known for his paranoia: he avoids physical contact, drinks only from his own cups, which he personally brings and takes away, and even hires agents to collect and destroy his feces during foreign visits. His security service began carrying a suitcase of feces with him in 2017. All this is done for one purpose: to prevent the world from learning about the dictator's genetic "Achilles heels." However, hackers managed to breach this defense. According to the German publication Bild, the computer of Mikhail Putin, the president's 58-year-old cousin, was hacked. And it was there that the results of a genetic test done in 2022 by the Russian company Genotek were found.
DNA analysis of the nephew allows us to say a lot about Vladimir Putin himself, since they have a common male line and 6.25% coincidence of the genetic code. Both Putins are carriers of the rare for Russia haplogroup E-V13, common in the Balkans and especially in Kosovo.
Haplogroup E-V13, as recent studies have shown, is associated with an increased risk of developing prostate cancer. This means that Vladimir Putin may also be susceptible to this disease. In addition, the test data indicates a tendency towards paranoia, and it is unclear how much of this is manifested in the dictator himself. Interestingly, back in 2010, the British Daily Mail wrote that Adolf Hitler was also a carrier of the same haplogroup E-V13. Could this explain Putin's morbid desire to hide his DNA from the world?
Ironically, all the efforts of the Kremlin leader were in vain due to the carelessness of his own relative. The president's nephew not only decided to find out his genetic characteristics, but also neglected to use a secure password. Hackers easily gained access to his account, and now this data has become the property of the international press. Putin can carry away as many cups and hide biomaterial as he wants, but his genetic weaknesses have already been exposed. Now experts and intelligence agencies around the world can study this data and understand where the aging dictator's weak points are.

Around one billion people struggle with stress-related illness globally - and that figure is rising. What protects those with good mental health? Is their resilience innate? Or is the ability to withstand chronic stress and crisis something that can be learned?

In the search for answers, the film visits some of the leading figures in resilience research. The filmmakers also interview epigeneticists and neuroscientists. In the largest European resilience center in Mainz, Germany, researchers conduct a long-term study to explore the mechanisms deployed by people who enjoy good mental health despite stress and crisis. In southern France, the film meets Boris Cyrulnik, a pioneer of resilience research. His credo: when it comes to resilient behavior, it’s not just down to us - society and politics also have a responsibility to create appropriate conditions for stable psychological health. And the film tells the moving story of two families united by tragedy: following the violent death of their two sons, who were friends, they struggle to find their way back to some semblance of normal life.

Our experiences, our environment and our genes - all influence our powers of mental resilience. Resilience isn’t a magic word or a promise of happiness, but a life-long learning process.

President Trump remarks that he is considering ending funding for the World Health Organization, which he says is heavily biased toward China.

The WHO responded Wednesday to President Donald Trump’s threat to cut its funding, saying the move would not be appropriate during the global coronavirus pandemic.

“We are still in the acute phase of a pandemic so now is not the time to cut back on funding,” Dr Hans Kluge, WHO regional director for Europe, told a virtual briefing, according to Reuters.

A day earlier, Trump threatened to withhold funding from the United Nations’ health agency, claiming it got “every aspect” of the coronavirus pandemic wrong.

“With regard to us, they’re taking a lot of heat because they didn’t want the borders closed, they called it wrong,” Trump said at his daily briefing. “They really called, I would say, every aspect of it wrong.”

As of Wednesday, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. surpassed 400,000, according to figures provided by NBC, with 12,864 fatalities nationwide.

It’s uncertain how the U.S. would withhold funding. Congress has already authorized $122 million for the WHO for this fiscal year, and while Trump has proposed only $58 million of funding in fiscal year 2021, Congress is unlikely to authorize such a drastic funding cut, especially in the the middle of the pandemic.

The president also criticized the WHO’s initial response to the outbreak, which originated in Wuhan in China in late 2019, and the time it took to declare the outbreak a global pandemic, on March 11.

U.S. announces formal withdrawal from World Health Organization wisdom 0 Views • 2 years ago

It is now official.
The Trump Administration has taken the unprecedented step of formally pulling the United States out of the World Health Organization.
The process will take twelve months to complete, but it leaves the UN agency on the brink of losing its largest financial contributor.
Kim Sung-min reports.
It was always a matter of when, not if.
The Trump Administration has gone ahead and formally withdrawn the U.S. from the World Health Organization.
Confirming the decision, the U.S. State Department said the administration on Tuesday notified the United Nations...,which is the depository for the WHO,... of its formal withdrawal.
U.S. Senator Bob Menendez also tweeted Tuesday that U.S. Congress received notification from President Trump about the news.
This decision was not out of the blue.
In May, President Trump expressed his intent to pull the U.S. out of the WHO..., blasting the institution as a tool for the Chinese government and in the pocket of Beijing.
This was after the U.S. launched an investigation to identify the origin of COVID-19 and President Trump accused China for being responsible for the pandemic.
Being the WHO's largest single contributor..., the withdrawal of the U.S. could deal a massive financial blow to the organization.
In 2019, the U.S. contributed around 400 million U.S. dollars, accounting for around 15 percent of the WHO's total budget last year.
However, whether this decision comes to fruition remains to be seen...as it has been criticized by congressional lawmakers - even Republicans.
Earlier this month, House Republicans urged President Trump to change his mind, saying the U.S. could do more in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic if it stays within the WHO.
Since the U.S. is the world's worst-affected country with more than three million COVID-19 cases..., there's a possibility the move could face barriers during the year-long withdrawal process.
Experts say a lot hinges on whether President Trump wins reelection in November and if the idea draws greater support from Congress.
Until then, the decision could be reversed.
President Trump's opponent in the election, former Vice President Joe Biden, says he will return the U.S. to the WHO if he wins in November.

Biden Mends U.S. Ties With the World Health Organization That Trump Left wisdom 0 Views • 2 years ago

President Joe Biden plans to re-engage with the World Health Organization Wednesday and send top U.S. medical expert Anthony Fauci to speak to the group in a strong repudiation of former President Donald Trump’s snubs during the coronavirus pandemic.

The new administration plans to participate in the WHO executive board meeting this week, with Fauci, the top U.S. infectious disease expert, heading the delegation and speaking. Once the U.S. resumes its engagement with the WHO, the administration will work with the body to strengthen and reform the group, according to a fact sheet released by the Biden transition team.

Trump announced in May that the U.S. would exit the WHO because of what he said was its undue deference to China and failure to provide accurate information about the coronavirus. He often blasted the organization and also has publicly belittled Fauci and diminished his role in past months.

In announcing these changes, Biden is underscoring that he intends to set a new science-based tone in seeking to reverse Trump’s dismissal of virus mitigation strategies and international cooperation in addressing the pandemic.

The U.S. had been the WHO’s largest contributor, providing $400 million to $500 million in mandatory and voluntary contributions, and Trump’s decision last year drew sharp criticism in Congress, as well as from allies in Europe. The WHO has been heavily involved in the fight against the coronavirus, especially in poor countries. The Geneva-based group said it looks forward to the participation of the U.S. delegation at Thursday’s executive board meeting.

Meanwhile, the president said he would sign an executive order requiring masks and physical distancing in all federal buildings -- including government office buildings -- as well as on federal lands and by federal employees and contractors in an attempt to help stem the spread of the surging coronavirus. He said this will be part of a “100 days masking challenge” to get Americans to wear masks in public.

“This is not a political statement; this is about the health of our families and the economic recovery of our nation,” said Jeff Zients, who will be the new administration’s Covid response coordinator.

Biden is expected to sign another order in coming days requiring masks on trains and planes, which also fall under federal jurisdiction.

The approach represents a reversal of the stance taken by Trump, who clashed with public health officials by at times casting doubt on the benefits of wearing masks and generally refusing to wear them himself.

During the campaign, Biden suggested he’d impose a national mask mandate, citing face coverings’ ability to slow the spread of the virus. But there’s no clear authority for a presidential order outside of areas controlled by the federal government. Biden later revised his approach to focus on federal property and interstate travel.

Biden faces a challenge in persuading Americans to wear masks after Trump and Republican officials across the country politicized their use.

On Tuesday, as U.S. deaths topped 400,000 in the world’s worst Covid-19 death toll, Antony Blinken, Biden’s choice for secretary of state, signaled that a U.S. rift with WHO may be healing and that the U.S. would join Covax, the 92-nation collaboration seeking to deploy Covid-19 vaccines around the world. While the Trump administration had given some $18 billion to vaccine and drug development through Operation Warp Speed, it declined to participate in Covax.
