PM under pressure over World Health Organisation funding

Prime Minister Scott Morrison is facing backbench pressure to make Australia’s contribution to the World Health Organisation conditional on reforms.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday suspended American funding, claiming the UN body failed to warn the world about the dangers of COVID-19 and acted favourably towards China.

Mr Morrison sympathised with the move but said Australia would not follow suit because of the organisation's work in the Pacific.

The Prime Minister has previously been critical of WHO's handling of the pandemic, saying he was puzzled by its endorsement of China's wet markets.
