Meanwhile, Russia rejected a Christmas truce because it could give Ukraine a temporary respite, Kremlin spokesperson Peskov said.
“We want peace. We don't want a truce to give Ukraine a breathing space and prepare for a continuation of the war. We want to stop this war”, Peskov said.
Ukrainian President earlier said that Kyiv supported the idea of a ceasefire, in particular for strikes on energy infrastructure, during the Christmas period. The Russian rejection of the Christmas truce comes as Washington steps up pressure on Kyiv to accept its proposed peace terms.
