Rabobank's global strategist Michael Every says Donald Trump won't abandon his geopolitical strategy against China, otherwise the favourable trade deals he's trying to achieve with other nations "crumbles to nothing". He says the US deal with the UK was designed to decouple the UK from both Europe and China. Mr Every says Donald Trump's strategy so far has been built around China, to try to change the relationship with Beijing or decouple from it. He said: "The overall strategy is still about ... economic statecraft ... it's about trying to restructure the economy in very, very radical ways, which has huge implications for where financial assets trade." He thinks financial markets will love outcome of the Geneva trade talks lead by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng.
