The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war and open the Strait of Hormuz, signalling an apparent end to more than three months of war in the Middle East.

China, Saudi Arabia and the UK were among those to welcome news of an agreement between the US and Iran.

A peace deal in Iran would be the icing on the cake for Donald Trump, who has marked his 80th birthday with an extravagant party in Washington DC.

The festivities weren’t without controversy, as the White House played host to a UFC event celebrating the 250th anniversary of US independence.
