US Midterm Election 2026: Can Democrats Take Congress? Trump’s Approval, Key Races & Polls | N18
US MIDTERMS 2026: WHO WILL WIN, WHO WILL LOSE? TRUMP, DEMOCRATS AND THE BATTLE FOR CONGRESS
The countdown to the November 3 US midterm elections is intensifying, with control of Congress at stake. Republicans currently control both the House of Representatives and the Senate, but Democrats are targeting competitive districts and states in an effort to take back power and strengthen congressional oversight of President Donald Trump.
Trump’s approval ratings, the cost of living, healthcare, immigration and the economic impact of his policies are major issues shaping the campaign. Democrats are highlighting affordability and the need for checks on the administration, while Republicans are defending their record and campaigning on their priorities.
The House battle is particularly significant. All 435 voting seats are up for election, and Republicans hold only a narrow majority. Recent analysis suggests Democrats have a plausible path to winning the chamber. The Senate contest is more complicated: Republicans currently hold a 53–47 majority, and Democrats need a net gain of four seats to take control.
Several competitive Senate races—including contests in Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, Maine, Iowa and Texas—could prove crucial. The outcome will influence congressional investigations, legislation, government spending and presidential appointments during Trump’s final two years in office.
