Cuban government considers biggest economic overhaul since Fidel Castro’s revolution

There is cautious optimism in Cuba as lawmakers promise the biggest overhaul of the country’s economy since former president Fidel Castro’s revolution.

Facing mounting economic pressure, the Communist Party is promising a series of reforms that, if implemented, would open the country to more private enterprise than at any point in nearly seven decades.

This would allow private banks, real estate development and the sale of some state-owned property, all while expanding opportunities for private and foreign investment.
